Our Mission

Our mission is to award grants to organizations, groups and individuals in financial need so they can access wellness solutions in Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM). The offerings include life style management strategies, dietary and nutritional guidance, hosting educational conferences and symposiums on today’s health concerns whose trends reveal a growing popularity for CAM. The foundation makes available products, wellness solutions and information related to lifestyle management strategies.

The Dire Need

As the pressure mounts on the aging baby boomers, we will continue to face difficult medical treatment decisions due to an antiquated medical system.  The best way to avoid negative effects of these decisions is to stay out of the medical system altogether.  Most people make health choices based on what is paid for by health insurance.  However, today it is important to put our emphasis on staying healthy.  Unfortunately this emphasis isn’t shared by the insurance industry.

An investment in your health today will pay big dividends in the future as medical treatment gets more and more expensive.  Each one of us has an opportunity to impact not only the health of those around us but also the ability to retire without the burden of huge medical bills.

Some of the largest branches of alternative medicine are homeopathy, naturopathy, chiropractic medicine and herbal medicine. Although each of these offer a very different service to the next they are all similar in that they seek different methods to create a balance than conventional medicine. In the past many of these techniques were treated dismissively but nowadays these types of alternative modalities have gained a great deal more credence. A greater amount of scientific research has been undertaken and many of these now receive greater respect.

Investments Magazine, in its May 2001 issue, reports that health care costs rose by up to 15 percent for America’s largest insurance companies after nearly a decade of 5 to 6 percent growth per year.  Translated to consumers this will mean an expected 18 percent increase in premiums for health insurance.

Hospitals account for a major reason of the expected increase, according to “Medical Costs Surge as Hospitals Force Insurers to Raise Payments.”  Some hospitals, following years of little or no increases in medical payments, consolidated services and merged with other health care organizations making them larger and in control of a larger portion of the market, allowing them to now demand 40 to 60 percent increases in payments for health care. Drug companies will increase their costs by 19 percent, with additional increases expected in 2002.

At a time when health care costs are increasing, government has found itself in a position of cutting budgets, including pending legislation in Congress and in the Minnesota Legislature that will reduce funding for health care.  Another alternative to lowering health care costs, however, is for people to pay closer attention to their lifestyles, and begin to acknowledge how their mind, body, and spirit are intimately intertwined.

Our Solution

Our intention at Mind Body & Spirit Foundation is to provide healthy/natural alternatives to drugs (prescription and over the counter) to assist creating a healthy lifestyle using natural alternatives, keeping closer to your body's natural design. Our philosophy is - we only need to provide the body with what it requires and it will perform as it was divinely designed.  We cannot improve upon its design. We can however, improve upon our choices to support this magnificent design.

Spirituality and health care have often been held at arms length from one another, until recently. In the early Nineties, only three American medical schools taught courses on religious and spiritual issues. Today, some 60 medical schools--or approximately half—do (www.WholeHealth MD.com).  While Minnesota is not exclusive in its progressive approach to medicine, the University of Minnesota’s Medical Center is acknowledged as a pioneer because of its establishment of the Center for Spirituality and Healing.

We share the products and services that we use for our families, friends and ourselves. We introduce to you products and protocols that truly optimize results, and they are not just part of the current fads. The companies, professionals and products we introduce here are a result of over 40 years of personal research into wellness, health and nutrition.

Without health and clear connection to Spirit we are left with very little to meet life’s challenges. Life is to be enjoyed and is much easier when we feel good. That’s the way it is supposed to be.  Health, wellness and living your full potential are one’s birthright.  Disease is not the norm.  Learn the causes of "disease" and "afflictions" and do something about it.  You are in control if you chose.

By handing over the full authority of one’s life to the industry of medicine, the pharmaceutical and medical establishments which have become so bloated, profitable and powerful, we're now witnessing it getting completely out of control. It has added to the creation of a nation of toxic minds and bodies.

Started in September of 1999 by Tina Johnson, Mind Body & Spirit Foundation became one of the only women-owned foundations with the expressed intention of extending CAM to a wider audience of all income backgrounds, ages, ethnicities, and physical abilities.

Mind, Body & Spirit Foundation focuses on care that helps individuals address core issues and provide long-term benefits in addition to, or in place of traditional medicine’s methods of treating symptoms.

Mind, Body & Spirit Foundation empowers people in financial need to begin to listen to their body, mind, and spirit and respond in an alternative way, from within.
